MY WORK WITH

INDIVIDUALS

The breadth of my experience in the culture sector positions me well to appreciate your situation and coach you to reflect on your personal growth and professional development.

  • You may be an artist looking to boost your confidence, in a managerial role and considering your next career move, or a Chief Executive grappling with the challenges of leadership.
  • I provide a structure for you to consider your current situation, gain awareness of your needs and review your choices from new perspectives.
  • Whatever your role or situation, coaching is a powerful way to discover what you need with new clarity and purpose.
My recent work includes:
INDEPENDENT ARTIST
Coaching an independent musician to go from feeling unable to focus on the work that was most important to them to feeling an unstoppable force of creativity.

SENIOR ARTS MANAGER
Coaching a senior arts manager to navigate difficult workplace relationships and try out strategies for managing their own responses, and that of others, with more insight and self-care.

EMERGING ARTS LEADER
Coaching an aspiring arts leader to identify and honour their values, respect their experience and step more confidently into their role and responsibilities.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Coaching a venue CEO to recognise and value their skills and qualities on their own terms, and feel more confident to make choices that will inform their next career move.

VISUAL ARTIST
Coaching an individual visual artist to identify what was underpinning the fears that were stopping them from making work, and to reach a new place of excitement and confidence.

INDEPENDENT PRODUCER
Coaching an independent producer to identify and navigate tensions around career sustainability and creative and professional fulfilment.
‘I undertook 6 sessions with Lucy and I can genuinely say they were transformational. In a very short amount of time she helped me to identify what was blocking me and find ways to move through and beyond these issues…I left every session invigorated’

WORKING WITH ME AS A COACH
Coaching is not about me telling you what to do. It is about me reflecting back what I hear you say, asking questions and offering careful challenge.

  • In my coaching practice I create a gentle, non-judgemental space that is open and encouraging
  • By hearing yourself more clearly, coaching can support you to quieten your doubts and fears, celebrate your skills and achievements and feel more comfortable with who you are.
  • I take inspiration from the Gestalt approach which believes change happens when we become more of who we are, rather than when we try to become something we are not.
‘Lucy's gentle guidance, support and genuine warmth helped me to process my previous experience in a really positive way, identify my professional values and ambitions so that I was confident in my foundations, and map out my next steps in a way that feels robust and realistic.’

COACHING FAQs
What is coaching?
  • Coaching allows you to explore where you are now, what is important to you and what might be getting in your way of achieving this.
  • It is a guided conversation that can support you to review and prioritise goals, develop confidence in dealing with complexity and uncertainty, consider your strengths and develop strategies for learning and professional development.

What is the structure of a coaching session?
  • We will agree overall goals for the coaching and contract for these at the start of our work together.  We will agree goals for individual sessions each time we meet.
  • Coaching sessions usually last 60 minutes. I suggest meeting every 3-5 weeks.
  • I recommend at least 3 sessions to start with and find 6 sessions support embedded learning.  But there is no template and I work flexibly in response to each individual's situation.

How is coaching different from mentoring?
  • Mentoring offers direct guidance, recommendations or advice.  I can adapt my coaching offer to include some mentoring, drawing on my own experience and contacts where we agree that would be useful and appropriate.

How is coaching different from therapy?
  • Coaching can help bring insight into how your conditioned behaviours and drivers, often showing up as self-limiting beliefs, impact you now in your life and work.
  • Our focus is more on the present and the future, than on the past which is more often the focus of therapy.

How much does it cost?
My rates are flexible and include packages for organisations and reduced rates for freelancers and part-time workers.
